The Assessment

Your First Visit

During your first visit to the Tutoring Tree, you receive a free one-hour consultation. We will discuss the various subjects your learner is studying in school, their study habits and the techniques and skills you feel will help them excel.

Also during this hour, a multiple intelligence questionnaire is given to your child. This questionnaire helps the staff of the Tutoring Tree gain insight into their learning styles and strengths in order to create a suitable curriculum for each student.

The Formal Assessment

Upon completion of the consultation, we will schedule a time for your learner to come in for assessments, which can include reading, writing and math. These assessments give us the necessary information to evaluate the skills and needs of your child, and to pair them with the tutor that will best suit their needs.

Each assessment, is a computerized test that evaluates skills for learning style, reading, math and writing. The assessments are an important tool to evaluate learning and skill building goals. Each student can take one or all assessments, based on his tutoring needs.*

The assessments we offer are:

Reading

Grades K-5

The eight sub skills of the reading assessment are high-frequency words, word recognition, phonics, phonemic awareness, oral vocabulary, spelling, reading comprehension and fluency.

Math

Grades K-5

General Math Skills

This test looks for number skills, from number recognition to calculations of fractions and decimals, and measurement skills including time, money, units of measurement, capacity and area.

Grades 6-9

The 14 areas of math knowledge evaluated are: integer operations, fraction operations, decimal operations, comparing and converting, estimating and rounding, evaluating exponents, ratios and proportions, simplifying expressions, coordinate graphing, linear functions, simple equations, geometry, interpreting data and simple probability.
